Initial Storyboard

Once I had my story idea down, I decided to write out a step by step sequence of how it would play out, splitting it into beginning middle and end. I decided I would change the order slightly, and have the short start with Beram's escape from capture, with the capture being shown as a flashback to make the short more interesting.

I then sketched these scenes out in my sketchbook as thumbnails. so that I wouldn't focus on details and more on the overrall composition and storytelling

WWW?:

  • I think the panels are pretty clear in what they're trying to communicate
  • The scenes flow together well
  • I've tried to think about staging and how I can present the image a lot, and I feel I achieved that pretty well. I've used the rule of thirds a lot, and for the more dramatic scenes I used center framing.
  • The transition into the flashback using the daisy is something I'm quite pleased with
To improve:
  • I need to clean up these storyboards a bit more before moving to the animatic
  • The flashback sequence may be a bit unclear, I'll need to differentiate that from the rest of the animation somehow
  • The story may be a bit too long
  • A lot of the scenes may be a bit too simple in framing - there's not much sense of 3D space as the character is always either front, side or back on. Maybe I can improve this in the travel sequence
