PP1 - Sunshine - Don't Confuse Love & Abuse

I really liked this animated PSA's use of escalation to show how domestic abuse can occur. The abuse built up as the short continued, starting from small things that may go unnoticed to more extreme actions. The climax of these actions and the realisation was shown through the use of evocative, nightmareish imagery, such as the feeling of drowning and being trapped. I thought this was a great way of illustrating the situation, and shows how it could feel. This PSA was targeted towards teenagers, and therefore using this almost POV narrative is very suitable in helping make more people aware.

The use of happy music as a constant throughout the short acted as a comparison. At the start the music seemed fitting, but as it progressed it highlighted how abusive the character actually was, all through a gradual change that shows how easy it can be to ignore the signs. I also loved the lighting and colouring of the short, the use of bright neon colours to make things overly happy, but still able to create a dark mood later on.
