PP1 - NSPCC Share Aware & The Bitter Bond

These two animations really stood out to me for their effectiveness at getting their message across, as watching these made me really empathise and understand the situation that's being presented. I think that's due to the strong and simple story - its to the point but very effective, showing the viewers the happiness of these things and then disrupting it jarringly with something sinister.

Both these animations were animated in a bright and cute style. Share Aware had a lineless style with an always smiling character and a cheerful sounding narrator. The Bitter Bond had upbeat music and a large-eyed cute character design. This contrasted strongly with the sadder message, making you feel for it more.

Using happiness to create sadness has always been one of my favourite storytelling tools, but watching these two animations has shown me that it isn't limited to just entertainment narratives, and that it has a strong place with advertisements too.
